Sensations…
The unfolding of a run : imagine yourself at the start of an international slalom in the heart of the Alps. The water released for the race, 40 m3/second, is almost like a flood. You are sitting in a small craft weighing barely 10 kg (22 lbs), the surrounding water is rather like a giant vise. Your concentration is so great you do not even hear the shattering noise of the water rushing down. You are thinking about the 25 gates and the required circuit. You are thinking particularly about that key passage which brought to an abrupt halt months of ...
Slalom : how does it work ?
The slalom is the only whitewater Olympic event. It is a timed race where the competitors have to navigate 18 - 25 gates, either red or green. They must go through the gates without touching the poles in any way, downstream for the green gates, upstream for the red. The city of Foix is overseeing all this construction. Covering about 100 meters in length with obstacles made out of rocks, the new basin will of course be used for warm-ups during official competitions but it will also be ...
A most successful trial run
The organization of the French championship and the international race inFoix, June 2009 was very successful. This large scale event was a sort of dress rehearsal before the Junior Championships in July 2010. It showed that a network of highly motivated volunteers drawn from the local population could face up to unforeseen difficulties that arise from such an event ; they were an invaluable assistance to the members of the Foix canoe-kayak club. For a number of them it was their first contact with this water sport. Novices and old hands managed a wide variety of posts from the very technical ...
